Canon Point: End Series & Beginning of the 2nd Demon World Tournament
History: Wiki Link
Personality:

From first impression, he's usually seen as an aggressive, underachiever who gets in to fights often. Kuwabara was the kind of guy that liked to handle his problem with his fists. He was a hot headed middle school student, who was seen starting fights with Yusuke Urameshi. Kuwabara wasn't an ideal student. He often got bad grades and struggled to pass his classes. Kuwabara is a rash idiot who doesn't think before he acts. If he he wanted to punch somebody's face in then he would do it. He often never thought about the consequences. He usually dived head first into any situation recklessly. Even so, Kuwabara persevered through all of it with a strong heart and mind. He's got a short fuse, and he was easily set off by insults, or any form of prudish behavior against him. With that aside, he was also a generous and kind teenager. Besides being a delinquent, he actually is a huge soft hearted idiot. He's rather protective of family and friends. Kuwabara would go through any trials necessary to protect his loved ones. His loyalties knew no bounds.

Kuwabara is fiercely loyal to his regular friends, Sawamura, Kirishima, and Okubo. They were his buddies and he would do anything to keep them safe and unharmed. He's quite empathetic of others and quick to understand where they were coming from. A good example was when he and his friends were caught by Kiyoshi Mitarai during the Sensui Arc. When Kuwabara was able to save his friends with the awakening of his Jigen Tou, he beats up, Mitarai, but instead of leaving him to die, he brings him back to the apartment understanding his feelings. Kuwabara also valued his comradeship with Yusuke, Kurama, and Hiei. They had been through a lot together as a team, and no matter what, he would have their back. He wouldn’t abandon them, and would sacrifice himself for their safety. Kuwabara is aware that he is not the strongest member of Team Urameshi, but he still strives to be strong for the sake of his friends. Even when they departed during the Demon Kings Arc, Kuwabara definitely did not abandon his resolve. He strives to be stronger, but also balances out studies for his sister.

Yusuke is like Kuwabara's brother in arms. He will do anything for the sake of his best friend. He went as far as getting beaten up many times by Yusuke in order for the other to remember his name. Kuwabara also views Yusuke as a rival that he will someday beat. With that being said, he shares a really strong bond and friendship with Yusuke, that's impossible to break even when they bicker or fight. When Yusuke died the first time around, Kuwabara fought his way through his friends to pay his respects for Yusuke and to rip the teenager out of his tomb, so he could beat him up. Kuwabara and Yusuke were not friends then, but Kuwabara always wanted him to remember his name. After Yusuke’s awakening, Kuwabara was very much part of his life as a genuine friend. He hung out with the teenager more often and Yusuke even saved his cat from a bunch of hooligans. Kuwabara joined Yusuke on a few of his earlier missions unwanted, but eventually, he became a huge asset of the team.

It shows how stubborn Kuwabara can be when it comes to people like Yusuke. Yusuke was someone that was very important to him and vice versa. Yusuke was like his brother in arms. Kuwabara wouldn’t stop at anything to protect Yusuke, just like Yusuke would punch a guy in the face for Kuwabara. Their friendship was that deep. Kuwabara was often beaten by Yusuke in the past and was also his punching bag, but it developed a friendship that neither party could break from. It was shown most during the Sensui Saga, when Kuwabara awakened to his dimension cutting ability based on his strong feelings to protect Yusuke. Kuwabara injured Itsuki and sliced through the barrier he had created to get to Yusuke. He cried when Yusuke died a second time, and took Sensui straight to Makai.

Kuwabara and Kurama have a very good relationship and as the series progressed, the two of them were seen spending more time together and Kuwabara would often sought out Kurama and Hiei to help him train to be stronger. At the end of the series, he's spending time catching up with his fox demon friend. He and Hiei may be at each other's necks, but Kuwabara considers him one of his close companions that he can trust to some extent. Sometimes Kuwabara questions how loyal Hiei is to his team. He's seen accusing Hiei of all kinds of things, including when he thought that Hiei abandoned them when they were on the mission at Maze Castle!

Shizuru, his older sister holds a strong place in Kuwabara's heart. He would never defy her and does what she wants him to do. He studies and tries his best so that Shizuru can be proud of him. In many ways, Shizuru is the maternal and sisterly figure that Kuwabara has in his life. Despite kicking his butt on a daily basis, She didn’t want him to be the way she was and Kuwabara followed what she wanted without a fight, because he understood that in order for him to reach the level of other students, he had to study much harder. Kuwabara's respect for women is probably due to his older sister.

Kuwabara had also shown that he was quite in love with Yukina, Hiei’s younger twin sister. Yukina was always quite ignorant of his pick-up lines, and often nodded and smiled at him as if she truly understood his antics. Kuwabara’s unrequited love for Yukina knew no bounds. She was the source of his energy and his happiness. She's capable of helping Kuwabara recharge his spirit energy due to his strong love for her. Kuwabara tries very hard to to be a man that can protect Yukina from harm due to her trauma with humans. He was always worried that she might hate him because he was a human-- the same kind of humans that caused her pain and suffering. Kuwabara also didn’t know that Yukina was Hiei’s sister. He did hope that one day Yukina would return his love confessions and his feelings. Kuwabara would be the happiest man if that were to happen.

Even though he is a brash character, Kuwabara runs on raw emotions. There is no doubt that whatever he does, he always manages to survive because of his strong will and stubborness. Kuwabara will always make the impossible possible no matter what situation he's in. Risho had a hard time trying to win against Kuwabara when wanted to impress Yukina, a demon that he had fallen in love with. Kuwabara was then charged with the ‘Power of Love,’ and ended up being able to summon his spirit sword, and sent Risho flying. Kuwabara secured a win with the power of Love. He's also the kind of person that has some struck of pure luck, seeing he had almost died several times throughout the series. Even though Kuwabara was seen as an incompetent member of the team, he's not all that stupid. If he put his mind to it, he can definitely be quite intelligent and crafty. It just takes him more time than his friends to get that far. He also passed the exams to a prestigious high school due to his hardcore studying. There was another situation where Yusuke was doing one of his first missions and Kuwabara almost got killed in it. He managed to transfer some of his spirit energy to Yusuke while he was unconscious and telling Yusuke inside his head that he better not mess up.

Kuwabara loves his world and he will do what he can to protect it. Kuwabara lived by his righteousness and often saw things differently from his friends. Kuwabara lived by codes and morals, such as not fighting girls and protecting the weak. He didn't care if they were his enemy, or if they were demons. Kuwabara refused to fight girls, and refused to hurt them in any way or form. He wanted to be the ideal gentleman, so that meant treating girls delicately. No matter what anyone had to say, he refused to hurt girls. He often scolded Yusuke for doing perverted things and treating girls too roughly. Kuwabara is easy going but he enjoys a good fair fight. He dislikes any kind of fighting where people throw cheap shots. A lot of Kuwabara's personality is based on his honor code and morals. He never goes back on his words and even if he takes the blame for the whole ordeal, he will do it. For instance, during the first season, he took a lot of the beatings from other gangs so that his school friend can keep his job so that his family won't go hungry. Kuwabara is too honest for his own good, seeing that he will never steal, cheat, or doing anything that is moralistically wrong. When he was told to steal comic books from a heavily guarded book store, he bought them instead. Even when one of the teachers accused him of not scoring high enough on the exam and erasing his answer, he still didn't hit the teacher.

Kuwabara has an unhealthy love for cats and it's shown many times throughout the series. When his cat got kidnapped by a rival gang, he went as far as apologizing to the leader so that they wouldn't hurt his cat. He once got on his knees and begged so that his cat would not be injured. He could go through any form of hell for beating cats, especially his. If his cat were ever injured in any way or form, he would probably lash out and beat someone up for it. His cat means a lot to him and it was something that he would definitely humiliate himself over. Eikichi is his baby, and he isn't afraid to protect her. This also shows how gentle and soft Kuwabara can be under his rough exterior. Kuwabara was also moralistic, and his virtues could never be overwritten. He stands to his code of being a man and never wanting to punch a girl or a fight one. In these instances, it puts him in very conflicting situations. Kuwabara is also kind of a flirt, but clearly not many were after his looks. When he was at his high school, he had a bad feeling that something was going to happen, and it did. After that, he gained much respect from the female population.

Another important fact is his strong sense of spiritual awareness. Kuwabara is very sensitive to the supernatural and often seen getting chills or paling over the fact that there were spirits or ghosts nearby. He's got a strong aptitude for the supernatural and and runs in his family. Anything out of the ordinary like ghosts, spirits and things he can't see seem to make him very uneasy at first. However, when he was able to hone his abilities the feelings don't completely go away. He's just able to see the supernatural more than he would like. He likes a band called Megallica. He even ditched Yusuke when they were trying to figure out a mission during the Sensui Saga to go see them himself since he had finally got tickets for the showing.

It was also probably due to him struggling with being the only member of Team Urameshi that was unable to have access to his powers. This brings up his inferiority complex that he has in regards to his companions. Kuwabara is the only human on their team and often struggling to be equal to Yusuke, Kurama and Hiei. As stated in his relationship, he sought out Hiei and Kurama to help him train more during the Dark Tournament and when his powers went dormant, he felt even more insecure about not being able to pull his weight. Hoe doesn't want to be a burden to his friends and he's aware that because he's human, he's at a disadvantage. It makes him work harder than anyone else to be on the same level as his friends. It goes the same for his studies and school. If he really puts his mind to it, Kuwabara is capable of making miracles happen.

Kuwabara woke up in some weird cave that appeared to be devoid of life much to Kuwabara's dismay. He seemed to have gotten himself lost in the climb up when he discovered this place in Crystallis. He didn't have his spiritual awareness or his spirit energy, but one look at it made him nervous. He certainly hoped he didn't stumble upon something creepy. His mind was telling him he better turn around but to where? The teen didn't exactly know the layout of Crystallis that well. It was a dumb mistake to go exploring when he didn't take a map with him.

He could use a nice warm meal somewhere in a Tavern with Yusuke, while attempting to take the alcohol from the teenage delinquent. Yusuke was still the same as ever, however Kuwabara had changed enough that he wasn't such a failure. He studied endless nights and and sacrificed time he had to ensure he was going to go to high school. With Shizuru's drilling he managed to make it there. He was on the verge of graduating until-- well this happened. He's now screwed over and stuck in this world, as a "Hero of Light." Not that he hate it. In fact, Kuwabara was totally okay with being the Knight that saved people.

Kuwabara's sense of justice is so strong that even killing him will not make him waver. Kuwabara stuck to his own goals and his own morals no matter how funny it seemed to others. Kuwabara always believed that it was part of being a man. He had to be strong and he had to protect the weak when they couldn't protect themselves. Kuwabara may not have enjoyed how he ended up in this world, but like his own, he wanted to save it. He was probably one of the few handful of Heroes that actually believed that whole heartedly. He never once gave up on the thought of protecting others and if he saved this one, he saved his own. It seemed to be the one reason why he was going to keep going at this.

Hell, the sooner he got done the faster he could see Yukina, the love of his life! The boy could go on forever and thinking about her fueled his body with energy. The power of love was always strong and he never would once doubt it. Love created miraculous things and he knew that.

However, none of that really matters right now that he's stuck in a cave lost.

"Jeez, I shoulda brought a map or somethin.' Dammit, Kuwabara, you sure need ta get your shit together," he replied rubbing his temples. After a moment he beams up again, "Alright, who the hell cares! I'll get out of here alright, just watch me! Oh that reminds me!"

He shuffles through his bag as he writes a quick letter in the best neatest handwriting he could.

"Send this ta Urameshi for me won't ya? Tell 'im to get his ass over here so we can kick some beast ass for the quest I just got and uh help me get out of this joint without getting lost... er-- yeah make him bring a map too!"

"Yes, of course Kazuma-san. I'll get right on it, kupo," the moogle mused with a nod of her little head. Kuwabara was excited as ever to get things cracking. Usually, he would just beat the shit out of things with his spirit energy, but that was no longer a choice here, seeing that he was stripped of it and given some weird job classes that he was doing quite fine in. Now, as Yuki went off to deliver his message to Yusuke, Kuwabara was making his way down the cave.

Limit Break:

DIMENSION SWORD (次元刀 | Jigen Tō) - This Limit Break will let Kuwabara have brief access to his Spirit Energy and it will allow him to cut through dimensional barriers and psychic territory and half distances for a short amount of time. The catch is that the Limit Break is dependent on how strong his emotions are when he's in battle. The more intense it is, the more likely the Dimension Sword will activate and succeed. If he wavers, the Dimension Sword will be unstable and will miss its target and not function correctly.
