Detailed History and everything about Kuwabara. What I wrote are the key points of history in the YYH Canon that Kuwabara was part of.

Kuwabara is one of the main characters of Yu Yu Hakusho world. His main role at the beginning of the story was a punk rebel who started fights with others, and often always getting into conflicts with Urameshi, Yuusuke, the number one punk of Sarayashki Junior High. Kuwabara wants to one day be able to beat Yuusuke to a bloody pulp and humiliate him, but that never really does happen, since Kuwabara was always prone to being beat every time he tried to win a fight against Yuusuke.

As the series progresses, Kuwabara participates with Yuusuke in a tournament at Genkai's Temple for special training by her. Kuwabara doesn't win the prize, but he eventually gains something more than lessons with Genka-sensei. He was able to develop a spirit energy created weapon, called a Rei Ken. It emits an orange-yellow glow shaped as that of a sword. At first, he could not call upon that energy without an amplifier, or the small block of wood that was shaped like a hilt of a sword. Being beaten by the demon Rando with broken limbs, Kuwabara recovers from the event pretty easily.

Kuwabara like his sister also has a strong sixth sense. He begins to experience odd things. At some point, he insisted on joining Yuusuke in the mission of the Four Saint Beasts, claiming to want to protect his home world from the take over of the Four Saint Beasts hidden in the dark depths of the Makai. He eagerly forced himself to go on the mission with Yuusuke and claiming that he can very well take care of himself, and showing off his Rei Ken.

Kuwabara's also participated as a fighter during the Ankoku Bujutsukai against the many demon and human teams on Hanging Neck Island to win the championship and take down Toguro, a demon who threatened to annihilate the Reikai Tentai and Sakyou who wanted to create a hole to Makai and unleashing the powerful demons that resided on the others side. Kuwabara goes through a whole lot of hardships with his companions and he himself, was almost killed during the finals, where he faked his death to help Yuusuke unleash his full powers on Toguro.

During the Sensui Saga Kuwabara's Spirit Energy became dormant within his body, and he could not summon it. Being forced down to a regular guy, he becomes slightly depressed and instead of helping Yuusuke, he went to a concert that was more important to him with his normal friends from the middle school. During that event, Seaman one of Sensui's men approached Kuwabara and attempted to kill him by threatening his friends. Diving into the water encased barrier, he successfully destroys from the inside with his new found power, the Jigan Tou, or the Dimension breaking Sword. Having found the person that he wanted, Kuwabara was then kidnapped by Sensui and his men during an ambush at Kuwabara's apartment.

Captured and almost eaten up by Gourmet, his friends came in time to save him, only Yuusuke died in the process again, Kuwabara finally summoned his new power in desperation to save his best friend, but was too late and Kuwabara enraged, chased after Sensui through the Makai hole that he and Itsuki had created. He successfully destroys the barrier that kept the A and S Class demons from entering the Ningenkai, succeeding Sensui's ultimate goal of destroying it and unleashing the powerful demons.

Kuwabara then after that did not play much of a role in the Makai Tournament or events that were in Makai revolving around Yuusuke, Hiei and Kurama. He instead remained in Ningenkai and waited for their return after feeling betrayed that his friends had left him for Makai. He didn't want to be left behind, but in the end agreed to do so. In the end, Kuwabara successfully makes it into the High School he wanted with a lot of beatings from his sister, and leading a rather normal life. In the manga he and his friends do little missions for Koenma every now and then from time to time like the Reikai Terrorist Chapter. In the manga also, Yukina is currently residing with his family thanks to his dad. She's studying as a student and what not.

In the movie Poltergeist Report,' Kuwabara along with his friends fight for the Ningenkai. The Fallen Meikai King, Yakumo has brought his wrath upon Reikai and aiming to make the Ningenkai his 'Meikai.' The team has to go through trials and cover these orbs of power in order to give Reikai back its powers. Kuwabara ends up battling one of the powers of Meikai, a demon by the name of Majari who can copycat his moves. Kuwabara was kept away from his shrine, retrieving one of the power orbs but in the end he used his fists literally to beat Majari. It was a futile end since the shrine was blasted as well and then Ningenkai was almost leveled. It's the typical fight until the death situation. In the end Kuwabara and his friends saved the Ningenkai by combining their powers and terminating the King of Meikai.

Personality:

From first impression, he's usually seen as an aggressive, underachiever who gets in to fights with the infamous, Urameshi, Yuusuke of his middle school.

Kuwabara was the kind of guy that liked to handle his problem with his fists. He was a hot headed middle scholar, who was seen starting fights with Yusuke Urameshi. He wasn’t the smartest kid on the block, and almost always got failing grades. At times, he did get failing grades. Kuwabara was a rash idiot who didn't think before he acted. He wanted to punch somebody's face in then he would do it. Sometimes he had good reasons for what he did, and sometimes he did it because it was the first thing that came to mind. He often never thought about his actions before he performed them. They usually led him into a corner, or he would get beaten for it. He's got a short fume, and he was easily set off by insults, or any form of prudish behaviour against him. With that aside, he was also a generous and kind teenager. Besides being a punk looking man, with a bad Elvis Persley hair do, he actually cared about the people around him. These people were usually his friends and family. Kuwabara would go through whatever necessary pain, broken bones and bloody sweat in order to protect what was important to him. His loyalties knew no bounds. He was the type of guy who would gladly sacrifice himself to defend all that was good and righteous, even if it sounded corny and stupid.

He was the kind of guy that let his emotions decide for him. He would rather think with his actions, rather than his brain and throughout the series, he's proved that his emotions could surpass any form of pain. His will power alone made him a difficult opponent to take down. Risho had a hard time trying to win against Kuwabara, when he decided he wanted to show off to Yukina. Kuwabara was charged with the ‘power of love,’ and ended up being able to summon his spirit sword, and sending Risho flying. Kuwabara secured a win for Team Urameshi then.

Kuwbara loved his world, and he would do anything to protect it. In the Yu Yu Hakusho series, there were three worlds that were mentioned. One being Ningenkai, the Human World, Reikai, the Spirit World, and Makai, the Demon World. These worlds co-existed with one another, but in human world, humans were not aware of the existence of Demon World. The only way someone would be aware of these worlds, would be those who have a spiritual sensitivity. Sometimes in Reikai there would be missions sent out to Yusuke and Kuwabara would do what he could to help Yusuke protect the human world from invading demons, or people who wanted to destroy it. Kuwabara lived by his righteousness and often didn't see things in the gray area. Kuwabara lived by codes and morals, such as not fighting girls. He didn't care if they were his enemy, or if they were demons. Kuwbara refused to fight girls, and refused to hurt them in any way or form. He wanted to be the ideal gentleman, so that meant being delicate and protective of all the girls. Yusuke and many of his friends did not approve of his ways, but Kuwabara was too stubborn to be stopped. No matter what anyone had to say, he refused to hurt girls. He often yelled at Yusuke for hitting girls casually, and doing perverted things.

Kuwbara also valued his comradeship with Yusuke, Kurama, and Hiei. They had been through a lot together as a team, and no matter what, he would have their back. He wouldn’t abandon them, and would sacrifice himself for their safety. Kuwabara was the weaker link of the team, but he had his own ways of being useful. He did what he could to be on the same level with his friends. He didn’t want to fall behind. Even during the Makai Tournament, Kuwabara trained in secret, while working his way through high school applications.

Yusuke was someone that was very important to him and vice versa. Yusuke was like his brother in arms. Kuwabara wouldn’t stop at anything to protect Yusuke, just like Yusuke would punch a guy in the face for Kuwabara. Their friendship was that deep. Kuwabra was often beaten by Yusuke in the past and was also his punching bag, but it developed a friendship that neither party could break from. It was shown most during the Sensui Saga, when Kuwbara awakened to his dimension cutting ability based on his strong feelings to protect Yusuke. Kuwbara injured Itsuki and sliced through the barrier he had created to get to Yusuke. He cried when Yusuke died a second time, and took Sensui straight to Makai. There, he struggled with Kurama and Hiei to defeat Sensui, whose power surpassed the three of them joined together. Their relationship was unique and worked purely on their emotions and trust for one another. Kuwbara would always have Yusuke’s back no matter what.

Kuwbara had also shown that he was quite in love with Yukina, Hiei’s younger twin sister. Yukina always quite ignorant of his pick-up lines, and often nodded and smiled at him as if she truly understood his antics. Kuwabara’s unrequited love for Yukina knew no bounds. She was the source of his energy and his happiness. Yukina was a delicate and gentle ice demon, and Kuwabara would always find ways to protect her from harm. He might not be good at it most of the time, but he tried. Hiei often did the work for him. Kuwbara also didn’t know that Yukina was Hiei’s sister. If he knew, he probably wouldn’t be so bold about his pick-up lines. He did hope that one day Yukina would return his love confessions and his feelings. Kuwbara would be the happiest man if that were to happen.

Kuwabara was easy going and enjoys a good fair fight. He would be against all forms of fights that people took cheap shots on. He was righteous and his emotions of justice drove him to do things that not many people could do. He was capable of surviving near death fights, and even fights that were clearly not in his favour. Kuwabara cherished his friends a lot, so he would do anything for them if he could. That included Hiei, even though they occasionally fought over small matters. Kuwabara is also kind of a flirt, but clearly not many were after his looks. When he attended high school, he had a bad feeling that something was going to happen, and it did. After that, he gained much respect from the female population. Kuwabara cared about school as well. He never once stopped studying hard when his friends were in Makai. He kept fighting on, so he could go to a prestigious high school in which he succeeded getting into.

Shizuru, his older sister was a huge maternal and parental figure to him. Despite kicking his butt on a daily basis, she cared about her baby brother and forced him to better himself, so he could make a better life for his future. She didn’t want him to be the way she was.

There is one more important thing about Kuwabara that makes him different from his companions. He had an unhealthy love for cats, and he even owned one. He once got on his knees and begged so that his cat would not be injured. He could go through any form of hell or beating for cats, especially his. If his cat were ever injured in any way or form, he would probably lash out and beat someone up for it. His cat means a lot to him and that was something he’ll never stop caring about. Kuwabara was also moralistic, and his virtues could never be overwritten. He did not fight girls. He refused to fight them, and would throw a fit if anyone were to fight a girl if they were male. He respected women and would not like to harm them in any way or form. That also went to enemies. He didn’t believe in hurting girls and he also yelled at Yusuke for beating up one of their female opponents to a bloody pulp. Unfortunately for him, the female turned out to be a male according to Yusuke.

He was also very loyal to his regular friends, Sawamura, Kirishima, and Okubo. They were his buddies and he would do anything to keep them safe and unharmed. He's quite empathetic of others and as mentioned does put himself in great danger for others. He likes a group called Megallica. He had ditched Yuusuke when they were trying to figure out a mission during the Sensui Saga to go see them himself. It angered Yuusuke but Kuwabara also had his own priorities.

Abilities:

HIGH SPIRIT AWARENESS (霊感 |Reikan | literal translation is Spirit Intuition) - Genkai described his Spirit Awareness as being unparalleled. Both Kuwabara and his sister possess a strong talent with this ability. Earlier in the series was listed as being able to hear and feel the presence of the ghosts, and could only see them in his dreams. He was also able to communicate telepathically, but that was only twice. The first time was with Yukina when they were performing the rescue mission and the second time with his teammates during the fight with Risho. It was later revealed that he could see visions of future events and of surrounding circumstances. A good example was when he was able to see the events around the human fighters that were part of the Dr. Ichigaki team during the Dark Tournament.

SUPERHUMAN PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE - Kuwabara possessed raw physical brawling strength to a degree beyond normal humans. We could use the examples of the Dark Tournament when he took on Risho's blow with very little Reiki (Spirit Energy) left in his body. He was also known to take most of the physical beatings compared to his companions, but he was able to get up and continue fighting as if nothing happened. At times, he would run purely on his strength and endurance alone. His stubborn personality did add to this ability as well. His strong will to win or move on was unparalleled against many of his opponents.

SPIRIT KICK - This ability, I suppose could be included as an Anime exclusive attack where he was seen surrounding his foot with energy and strength to knock out the Third Ogre with Yusuke. The manga stated that it was a regular kick. It was also carried to the GBA game as a counterpart to Yusuke's Spirit Punch.

SPIRIT TRANSUFIONS - Kuwabara was skilled at manipulating his Reiki. He managed to transfer some of his Reiki to Yusuke's body so that Yusuke didn't die. After transferring such a large amount, Kuwabara ended up passing out as well. He was also shown to reabsorb his reiki in small amounts, such as the event with Byakko where he was able to maintain his Reiken (Spirit Sword) after the fight was over.

BRAWLER TYPE FIGHTING ABILITIES (with influences from Martial Arts/Adaptable Weapons) - Kuwabara was known for his brawler type of fighting, street fighting. He was one of those fighters that would rush into the situation clumsily and considered that his greatest defense to be a good offense. He was later seen using that veracity of his Spirit Blades to find unique ways of fighting his opponents in the appropriate setting. (such as a bat for Rando, whip sword for Rinku and a fly swatter for Ani Toguro.) His sixth sense plays role in this: he was known to use to avoid danger or at least sense the danger. He was the moral core of his team so he was more prone to become even stronger when his friends and innocents are threatened compared to Yusuke. His winning round with Risho proved that he was able to be victorious when the people he cared about was around him.

SPIRIT SWORD (霊剣 |Rei Ken | Aura Sword in the Viz translation) - This was Kuwabara's signature ability. He could manifest a sword out of his own Reiki (Spirit Energy) and manipulate it into a shape of an energy sword. The strength of the weapon depended on how much Reiki Kuwabara puts into it. We could use the example of his mess up when Gokumonki took Botan hostage. He was terrified of hitting Botan while she was being held captive thus not using enough energy in the weapon. In the end the weapon broke. He first harnessed this ability during Genkai's Tournament where he fought Musashi. He took a broken piece of the man's specially made spiritual wooden sword and channeled his energy into it, creating the Reiken for the first time. After intensely training, Kuwabara was able to harness it at will. He no longer needed a piece of wood to channel his energy through. Kuwabara was not a trained swordsman, so he lacked the gracefulness of Hiei's sword strikes, and his swings were rather clumsy and full of force, rather than with fluid movements.

ENERGY DEFLECTION - The sword could also be used to repel energy based techniques when he swung it like a baseball bat. For some unknown reason, it was able to be blocked by Hiei's sword. We could use the example of the Genkai tournament where he was facing Shorin who used his own technique, Circles Inferno. Kuwabara deflected it back at him when it was sent Kuwabara's way.

SPIRIT SWORD JAVELIN (伸びろ | 霊剣 | Nobiro | Rei Ken [Spirit Sword] Extend! | Aura Sword Extend in the Viz translation) - Kuwabara's spiritual ability seems to be derived from a form of materialization; aka an act of manifesting one's Reiki into a shape of a blade. After he was able to control it, he could extend it at will. Thanks to Kurama's personal training, Kuwabara was also able to bend and lengthen his sword at will. (making it closer to a whip or a sword. It could also be a johyo.) This allowed Kuwabara to fight from a distance wit his opponents, giving him somewhat of an upper hand. (I.E. fight with Rinku.) It could also act as a pole vault to leap great distances or survive falls that were from great heights. (I.E. fight with Byakko.) Kuwabara activated this move in the Anime by saying: "Sword, get longer!"

SPIRIT SWORD MONSTER BEAST DONUT - With his ability, Kuwbara lured the chained beasts chasing him into a circular formation on an upper platform of Maze Castle. He proceeded to twist and seal the two ends of the Reiken, creating a donut like shape out of the sword in which immobilized the beasts that were chasing him. That move forced Byakko to destroy them with rage.

DOUBLE SPIRIT SWORD (霊剣二刀流 | Rei Ken Nitōryū | translates as Spirit Sword Two Blade Style | Double Aura Sword in the Viz translation) - Before the Dark Tournament, Kuwabara participated in both Hiei and Kurama's intensive training. He developed this specific technique where he could materialize two Reikens at will. The Anime only showed it once when he was fighting Rinku during the Dark Tournament. The Manga version however, he used it against the demons on the boat that led to the Hanging Neck Island. It is believed that he was able to manifest this technique due to the fact that he wanted to expand his ability to defend against simultaneous attacks from multiple directions. It also assisted with increasing his offensive capabilities.

SPIRITUAL STRIKE - He used his Spiritual Awareness ability to manipulate the flexibility of the weapon so that it was able to create a tracking feature in order to attack his target. The first time he exhibited this ability was against Rinku in the Dark Tournament.

SPIRITUAL SWORD SHARDS (霊手裏剣 | Ri Shuriken translates as Spirit Throwing Knives) - An ability that allowed Kuwabara to produce small bolts of energy from his hands similar to the shape of a large Shuriken. It shot spirit blades at the opponent. This could be considered an analogue of the Spirit Shotgun, since it was a multi-projectile attack. It was much weaker than the Reiken, however.

During the Movie 'Poltergeist Report,' Kuwabara summoned this attack in which he called his Reiki to form a giant sword that resembled a large column of Reiki. He then struck his opponents with this. It was also very similar to Yusuke's Spirit Gun Mega because it was an attack that took all his remaining Reiki, and focused it all in one final attack. It will leave the user drained of Reiki and resorted him to use his fists in the fight with Majari

THE TRIAL SWORD (試しの剣 | Tameshi No Ken translates as Sword of Trials |The Trial Sword in the English Dub) - Kuwabara was given a sword handle from The Beautiful Suzuki. It was the sword handle that Shishiwakamaru used. Suzuki then explained to Kuwbara that it would absorb his Reiki and change into a form that was unique to him. Kuwabara tested that out, and was able to produce a massive prismatic blade made purely of Reiki. It generated a unique and almost electrical aura that crackled and surrounded his entire body. It improved his offense and defense.

SPIRIT FLYSWATTER (巨大霊気棒 | Kyodai Reikibō | translated as Giant Spirit Energy Staff) Kuwabara managed to make it change shape as well. He turned it into what he called a Spirit Flyswatter. He used it to beat Ani Toguro, who could not be killed because he was able to manipulate his organs to move when he pelased. It was unnamed in the Manga. The ability was also to stop Ani Toguro from being able to shift his organs, seeing it got him in all directions.

DIMENSION SWORD (次元刀 | Jigen Tō | translates as Dimension Blade | Dimensional Sword in the Viz translation) - This ability was a more enhanced version of his Reiken. It literally would allow him to cut through dimensional barriers and psychic territory. A large amount of Reiken was put into the manifestation of the Jigen Tou, which increased his strength tremendously. This was also because during most of the Chapter Black Saga, Kuwabara's spiritual awareness felt the threat of the Makai opening up in Ningenkai, and had refined itself in order to change into the form of the Jingen Tou. Kuwabara still had trouble summoning it at will and will only appear at dire situations. It is an ability that would not be easily called upon. Eventually, however, he was able to summon it at will. This specific ability was rare, and Sensui himself was searching for the person that was able to use the dimensional breaking ability. He first acquired this ability during his struggle with Seaman (AKA Mitarai) but was not able to fully call it until the fight with Sensui.

In the Manga, this ability could half distances, such as the time the team was trying to stop a terrorist attack on Reikai, suggesting that it was able to generate a space-time tear as a type of wormhole almost. It appeared to be seal itself afterwards, giving the hint that it did not scar reality when it was used.
